Morimoto Waikiki

More than likely, you have heard of the Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. He's the star of his own cooking show - Iron Chef America. After gaining fame on TV, he branched out by opening his own restaurants in North America. In October 2010, he opened a restaurant here in Waikiki in the hotel formerly known as the Ilikai or the Waikiki Edition Hotel. Due to recent events, I believe the hotel is currently renamed "the Modern Honolulu".

I had heard a lot of negative feedback regarding his restaurant, so I wasn't in any rush to try it. I finally made it to his restaurant, ten months later.

We got seated on time (we had a 7:15 pm reservation on a Saturday night) and the service was excellent. Our waiter knew the menu well and gave us a recommendations on what to order. The only thing that I would not order again is the takoyaki - I felt it was too rich.

Since we came in with low expectations, we weren't expecting much, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. We also liked the modern decor and their open kitchen concept.

The valet was full, so we parked in the self-park parking lot across the street from the hotel (where Red Lobster and Outback is located). It's $7 which is collected up front.
