Maple Garden Restaurant

Today our family went to Maple Garden Restaurant for a friend's ("B") surprise Yakudoshi party.

It Hawaii, is not uncommon for parties to be thrown for men when they turn 41 and for women when they turn 32, as those years are considered "unlucky" in Japanese culture, and such parties are said to help bring good fortune.

I thought we would be eating a typical 7-course party menu, but we actually got to enjoy the buffet.

A server first came around and offered some Hot & Sour soup.

The buffet consisted of the following (I tried to take as many photos of the food with accompanying labels as I could):

Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Kun Pao Chicken
Steamed Fish, Beef Broccoli, Honey Spareribs, Mixed Vegetables
Almond Float and Jello
The food was pretty good (my faves were the Boneless Chicken and Garlic Eggplant) and the service was fine.

There is a private room available, but our party occupied the main dining area.

Parking is really tight.  There's a very small parking lot, but fortunately there was someone outside directing cars to other parking alternatives (such as on the street, in the adjacent lot, or in the First Hawaiian Bank Parking lot).

Overall we had a nice time, and I thought it was really great they let the party hosts bring in their own pupus, drinks, and cake!

Wishing "B" a wonderful birthday and many more to come!
